An update from Ms. Graham, copied and pasted below.
Good Morning Forest Park Families,
I hope you and your families are staying healthy and doing well under these unique circumstances. As many of you know, yesterday afternoon, all Bay Area residents were given a directive to abide by a Shelter In Place until April 7th. I am aware that a few families have not picked up materials or technology and unfortunately, we are unable to open the school to allow families to get any items they may still need. Teachers are working diligently from their homes to ensure learning continues. If you have not received contact from your child's teacher please email them. Email addresses for all staff are located on our schools website under Teachers & Staff - please check emails you have already for accuracy, some parents have been emailing incorrect addresses. If you do not hear from your child's teacher by the end of the day today, please send myself or Mrs. Spurgeon an email so we can put you in contact.
It is a challenging time for us all, here are a few tips to help make the next days and weeks easier:
1. Keep a routine. Wake up children at the same time you would on a school day and keep them on a scheudle.
2. Be flexible. We are in a very unique time and things might not go as planned everyday, that's ok! Just do your best.
3. Communicate with school staff. If you need help or have questions, reach out to staff through email. We are all still working and we are here to help.
4. BREATHE. Just take a deep breath, this too shall pass.
Mrs. Spurgeon and I will be trying to reach out to as many families as we can, to check in and see how everyone is doing. We are supporting our teachers so that students can continue to learn while Forest Park and the Bay Area are closed. Please remember that while teachers are working hard to ensure your children are learning, they are also taking care of their loved ones and themselves. Please be patient as we weather the storm together.
Stay healthy.

Please have your child check Google Classroom every weekday for their weekly assignments. I am currently working on lesson plans and uploading assignments, but I've gotten them started for this morning. I'll be uploading assignments as I complete them. Please feel free to add questions to the Parent FAQ page or you can email me directly and I can add the questions to the doc as we move forward. I'm happy to answer questions to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure we all understand that each family is coming to terms with these new circumstances and challenges that lie ahead. I am confident we will cooperate well in order to get through this epidemic together. Thank you for staying tuned and hope you all stay healthy! :)
Monday, March 16 @5:02PM
I'm going to go ahead and begin a shared/live Google Doc with parents so that it's easier for me to answer questions as best as I can. I want to keep a separate doc from students to respect the privacy of both parties. I'm creating the doc now and will be sharing it soon. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding!
The 6 Bay Area counties have been put in a Shelter in Place starting at midnight tonight until April 7.

Hello Families of Room 406,
Ms. Graham just walked in to inform me that six Bay Area counties have been put in a Shelter in Place starting at midnight tonight until April 7. This means that when I leave our classroom today, I will not be allowed back until at least April 8.
I've been working today to develop assignments for our students to work on during this break. Google classroom will be the primary tool we use for organizing assignments. New Assignments will begin showing up there on Wednesday. I'm planning on taking a weekly approach so that families can have flexibility in their schedule. Even though the school building is closed, their learning has not.
Throughout the closure, please feel free to contact me through email, and I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kinoshita

I have added a shared Google Doc on Google Classroom for students to ask me any questions they might have at this time. I will answer the questions as soon as I can. It's a live/editable document.

Good Morning Parents/Guardians of Room 406,
Thank you SO MUCH for your continued patience and understanding during this time of uncharted territory. I am working closely with my colleagues to prepare lessons for students for the next two weeks of closure. Teachers were told to use today and tomorrow as our planning days. I will be uploading assignments via Google Classroom. At this time, teachers are having to decide and figure out individually what accountability will be held on both the teachers' and students' ends. For our class, I don't imagine that I will be able to use any of the school closure assignments for any kind of report card or grading purposes, since I will not be able to guarantee which assignments have been completed independently or with assistance/support at home. Please do not worry about completing assignments during the school closure. I will not count incomplete assignments against students during this time. This is my decision for my class. Other Fremont teachers may be choosing to do this differently.
For today, students can check Google Classroom for websites, but specific directions likely will not be uploaded to Google Classroom until Wednesday, March 18 @8:30AM. I am currently working on planning with other teachers, lesson planning, exploring online resources, and responding to emails. I will try to respond to emails as quickly as possible.
Thank you, again, for your patience. I can only imagine what working parents are going through right now, having to figure out how to work remotely from home and monitor your child's academic needs.
Working together, we will make it through this ordeal. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation!
Mrs. Kinoshita
I have copied and pasted a letter from Ms. Graham below:
Good Morning,
As you know, all schools in FUSD will be closed to students for two weeks as a precautionary measure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an extraordinarily challenging time for us all and we appreciate your cooperation, flexibility, and partnership during the upcoming days and weeks. The next two days, some teachers will be coming to Forest Park during school hours to fully prepare for the upcoming complete closure, while others will begin working from home on Monday, March 16th. Families should not stop by unannounced to speak with teachers/staff. If you need to come in, please call/email and schedule an appointment because not all staff will be on campus. The office will be open from 8:00-3:30 on March 16th and 17th.
Teachers are working to prepare lessons and assignments to ensure student learning continues during this closure. Please keep in mind that it is no small task to provide this magnitude of work for students in such a short period of time. Each teacher will decide how learning will look in their classes - some may be using Google Classroom, others may be giving assignments from books or online sources, some may provide physical packets/worksheets, and others will do some combination of online and handwritten assignments - this is up to each teacher. Administration and teachers will be available throughout the closure during school hours via email and checking voicemails daily in case families have questions or need help. Each teacher will decide how work will be shared with families, some may send home daily assignments, while others may be providing all the work upfront, this is also up to each teacher. In the coming days, your child's teacher will be in contact with you regarding the work your student should complete during the school closure.
If your child has computer or online work assigned and you need assistance with technology access - please contact your child's teacher and a school administrator (emails below) to get your child the access they need. Arrangements for technology pick up should be done prior 3:30pm on Tuesday, March 17th - after this time no staff will be on site until the end of the month. We have a limited number of chormebooks to lend, if you have tablets at home, they will suffice for online work.
Report cards were scheduled to go home on Friday, March 20th, however, we will not be at school to send them home that day. Hard copies of report cards will be sent home the day we return from the school closure. If you need the report card before then, reach out to your child's teacher, they can send you a PDF of the report card via email after March 20th.
This is a very chaotic time for us all and everyone is doing their best to stay healthy and meet diverse the needs of students, families, and themselves.
Thank you so much for your partnership and cooperation!

Yesterday in class, we went through some COVID-19 resources provided by Ms. Graham.
Here are the links to the resources we used in class if you are interested in seeing them:
- Simple video demonstrating proper handwashing technique. (Scroll down to the bottom of the page.)
- Comic explaining what the virus is, common misconceptions and concerns, and explaining how to stay healthy.
- Brainpop video explaining what coronavirus is, how it is transmitted, and what you can do to protect yourself.
- Google Slides presentation with factual information about the virus and detailed suggestions for how to stay healthy. Thank you to American High School for creating and sharing!
I had all 406 students wash their hands in the classroom before lunch yesterday to check their hand-washing practices after watching the videos. I used a timer so they could see how long 20 seconds actually feels when washing your hands! They did well and they are aware that it's their responsibility to keep themselves clean to minimize the spread of germs..
Thank you for keeping your children at home if they are not feeling well. I hope you are all well and that things will settle down soon for all of us.
The standards based report cards will be sent home NEXT FRIDAY, March 20 for Forest Park Elementary.
